For years I've been growing a Christmas Box in a large pot by the back door and year by year it's produced more and more fantastically sweet scented flowers.

Yesterday, the snow from the roof dumped itself right on top of it and snapped several branches ... I've cut some and bought it into the house for its perfume but am wondering whether it's worth trying to take cuttings at this time of year, and if so, what method to use?

Feeling a bit miffed because it was such a lovely shrub.

May be worth trying taking several types of cuttings and trying different methods - you never know one or two just might take. I would opt for soft wood cuttings in sandy well drained soil, placed around the edges of the pot - protect from wet and frost but keep damp and air flow and you just might succeed. Good luck.

yep I agree may as well try taking some cuttings, wouldnt put them on a cold windowsill mind you. you could try poping a bag over the pot to make it warm but not hot.

Maybe a touch of hormone rooting powder if you have some. Agree with the slight warmth but also the need to let air circulate or they might rot.

My propagation bible seems to have gone for a little walk too ...

I've found they propagate easily by division, so much so that cuttings are scarcely worthwhile. They are not that easy to strike.
