Hello everyone,

We are going to make a chicken coop/run (and a run for rabbits as well), so have been looking at wire mesh for both.

What size netting and guage would you recommend? And where do you buy your netting?

Cheers all

Anders

Thanks for that, Tavascarow.

Anyone else know if 1" mesh is good for rabbits?

I use one-inch for rabbits too or they tend to get there teeth in there and chew it up (20mm to be precise) Don't forget to put some underneath at least around the perimeter cos' they can burrow ot in 10 mins - and they do - soon as your back is turned.

I think the 50mm x 100mm stuff s fine for most poultry (try Gamme vert if in France) as they are unlikely to be out in the run if they are small enough to escape he 50mm

avoid buying it from builder merchants as it is near double the price of feed merchants.

Thanks for the offer, - might take you up on that later on.

This time we are coming over by van, so I'm stocking up on a few bits, - like the wiremesh. We've got the room in the van and its probably cheaper here. Do you know roughly the price for 30m 1" mesh in France?

Not to worry, I'll work something out over here. I've found 30m 1" weld mesh for just over £40. Seems like an OK price.
See ya

Foxes can and do rip holes through brand new chicken netting to get at stock.

We have started to use plastic deer fencing for our chicken runs. I know it is plastic and therefore bad , but it is so much easier to work with than chicken wire fencing. It also seems to be keeping its shape better.

Its lighter so easier to transport. There is loads of it on Ebay under deer fencing.

Is it the 2"x2" deer fencing you use then?

Anders, buy it in France and bring things of more value over like decent tools !

Second hand stuff is easy to find - just put in your own departement.

Yes 2" x 2" is fine for chickens. And because it is quite high they are less likely to fly over.

I have no idea about rabbits though. Our last rabbit was seen headed for the hills after the pigs burrowed into his run.
