I saw an article the other day in a magazine about hunting with a catapult and was wondering if anyone has actually tried it. If so how easy is it and what sort of animals could i kill for the pot. |

If I recall correctly, when this subject has arisen before, every responsible hunter on the forum has basically said "Don't do it". |

Absolutely.
Cannot remember the thread, but the discussion was comprehensive. |

Indeed. They are an inhumane, inaccurate, wholly unsatisfactory weapon, their legality is questioned by some but their use would almost certainly justify a charge of causing unnecessary suffering.
They are especially favoured by the borderline deranged and those forbidden by reason of mental stability or criminality from owning firearms. Avoid use unless you wish to be classed alongside such individuals by all right-thinking persons. |

I don't hunt with one, I don't necessarily advocate it, but I will once again point out that there are people in this world that can use them humanely, and have used them as a part of their culture for a very long time.

As a boy I used a catapult with steel coach bearings to knock pheasants off thier roosts, very succesfully, once downed they had to be killed quickly and quietly! |

I wouldn't joke at all, that old geezer is amazing
In the right hands its an accurate weapon. Whether or not its got the punch to down prey at far past point blank range (or larger than, say, a rabbit or squirrel) is really the question. |

If anyone is using one for something larger than a rabbit, than they're obviously __________ (I feel like I should leave it to Brownbear to fill in that blank) |

its obvious brownbear would rather blow something to bits than use some skill to take out something with a catapult, the catty has put food on my table for the last 40yrs. and i've found criminals and people with mental problems don't carry catapults they have guns and knives, what do you carry brownbear................ |

When the elastic breaks you can always replace it with one of the strings off your banjo.
BTW, does this presage another prank call to the RSPCA from the habitués of Jack's Shed? Do try to get my name right this time. |
