we found peeing (OH and the danes) around the chicken pen stops the blighter coming too close, doesn't stop him coming onto the land, just its stopped the nightly raids we were having failing that a bullet is probably the best option

I've used an electric fence around my veg garden and hen house and it stopped the foxes using the protected bit. It didn't stop them using the rest of the garden though.

as the grange says pee but as the old poultry books say must be male pee or another old method is human hair hung in stockings around the perimeter of your chicken pens

It will have an entry point onto your land, they like trails, so take the same routes over and over. Find it and leave a pile of dog shit, the smell puts them off. But it might make a fresh trail, so ..... By the way, although i live in a town we have lots of foxes and this method worked for me and we dont get to shoot them.

We're surrounded on four sides by fields. Can't see it helping much, I'm afraid. I'll dig out the fencing tomorrow.

I shoot most vermin, but i will not shoot a fox this time of year, they have dependant cubs, by the end of June the cubs should be independant. Electric fence for the time being. Regards Richard

I will continue to trap foxes round my poultry at this or any other time of year ---why would I want to allow them a breathing space to increase their numbers? When the fox population here has dropped a bit so they are only an intermittent problem then I'll change my mind.

so very true lottie if you give them a breather you might as well kill the chicken for it and leave it at its hole to save it the job of walking to your land to have to kill it itself if i saw a fox id shoot it whatever time of year well maybe id trap it 1st to see the culprit in action
