I've lost the recipe book for my breadmaker. Can I use any recipe for it or do they need to be manufacturer-specific?

If not, any recommendations for a tasty loaf?

1 teaspoon yeast
7oz strong white flour
7oz brown flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon milk powder
little knob of butter
300ml water

In that order, is what we use (I think)

We tried leaving it out, but find it seems to rise better with it in.

3/4tsp yeast,
400g flour of your taste,
bit of sea salt,270ml water,

Adding sundried tomatoes and a teaspoon of mixed herbs works well. Surperb with scrambled egg.

I have always used the recipe from the flour maker, never from the breadmaker. Thus:

400g of strong flour (usually White or granary)
1 - 2 teaspoons of yeast (brown needs a bit more than White, and I often add less when the yeast us fresh and a bit more as it gets older)
1 tsp of salt
a slug of oil
240g/mls of water

do try your making your bread with no sugar - it makes much nicer bread, providing you use good flour.

Thanks, everyone. I shall dust off the breadmaker this week and see what happens!
