If, and when our geese hatch out some eggs,
A,How long do the goslings stay with mum?
B,What do they need food wise?

Also we have been warned that the gander may kill the goslings, also, that the goslings must stay away from water for a while.
True or not!

our gander was fine with the goslings, but then I’m not implying all ganders will be. Bit like is suppose some cockerels will tolerate chicks (our cochin was a better mum than the hen)

A friend of mine in France has geese, and he found the gander looked after the sitting mum, and was then a proud father ... but other people I know had problems. I'd keep a close eye and see how your particular gander behaves!

With mum until mum starts to abandon them is best.

Feed? I'd give (UNMEDICATED) chick crumbs to start with, soaked to a mash so they can shovel it in easily, but have found that ducklings very quickly progress to grains, so goslings will be the same I'd have thought.

Our gander was also fine with the goslings. Last year having just the one they fussed over it like a spoilt only child .

We use a childs paddling pool for water and the only changes we made were to put several stones, blocks into the pond so that the goslings could get out easily.

Food wise I don't think we fed anything, I honestly can't remember.

As soon as they are fully feathered they can be removed from the parents.

ETA: I think we must have fed them, if we did it would have been non medicated chick crumbs as Vanessa said. Medicated ones can kill them.

For drinking water we gave them a very shallow dish gradually getting deeper, they grow amazingly fast.

The parents have a bucket but be careful because as the goslings get bigger they can and do drown in them.

Sadly we found a fully feathered, several months old gosling/goose upside down in a bucket once.

Feed - ours live almost entirely on grass with a tiny amount of feed morning and evening.
We get finishers pellets (not growers which are medicated, or layers which have too much calcium) and when the goslings, or indeed chicks, are small we put the pellets in the blender to chop them down a bit. The goslings are very neat about picking pellets to suit their size. Much cheaper than un-medicated chick crumbs.

We've found the goslings stay with the parents all the way through to the spring if you don't eat them for Christmas. When the new eggs are turning up, the parents try and see off the former goslings and usually fail. At which point said adult geese that used to be goslings can be a pain and interrupt the laying goose or even kill goslings out of jealousy.

Goose au vin just before easter works well.

Our gander is another excellent father and guardian.

no special feeding needed , goslings should only be kept away from water if foster reared by hens, if reared by geese their down is waterproofed from the mothers glands, as for ganders, well try and get near the babies when dad is around
