Does anyone have an address where I can purchase chutney making equipment from (jars, tops, equipment) Thanks David

Lakeland do them as well. although I seem to have inherited a lot of mine from friends and family Does anyone use the brass preserving pans anymore? I use my grandmothers - it makes mega quantities

Just made serious amounts of the brown stuff....all potted up in charity shop stuff old coffee jars jampots etc.....don't buy any thing it is really all around...but must admit old ( v v v old le creuset best for the job!!)

I get given jars by family and neighbours and I just use an old stock pot. I'm not sure I could bring myself to buy special equipment just for chutney. Is it for a special treat David or were you told you need special equipment?

Chutney-making equipment :

for preparing the veg / fruit :
vegetable / kitchen knife
chopping board

for cooking the chutney
big pan (preferably stainless - never sure about brass for chutney because of the vinegar)
big wooden spoon (long handle so it doesn't fall into the pan and vanish)

jug / gravy boat / something with spout for filling jars neatly.

old glass jars : save your own or ask your friends / workmates. metal lidded ones are fine. the thread on coffee jar lids can sometimes not be sufficiently airtight.

that's all . no need for special gear.

Hi David -

I order my jam/chutney jars from Ascotts (www.ascotts.biz). I make a lot of chutneys and pickles and the lids that ascotts supply are ideal for the job as they are coated on the inside.

They are currently selling a very nice jam pan - I just use a huge stock pot I bought for about twenty odd quid.

Last time I was in France I bought a load of the kilner type jars, which were really cheap at the time and I use them when making jam and pickles for me and the hubby!

Lakeland sell jam jars but these are quite a bit more expensive than Ascotts.

Jam funnel and ladle much less messy and wasteful than a jug/gravy boat type thing.
