Yay!

Here's hoping for a beautiful filly foal for you next spring.

Will the mare foal in the field? Our vet likes that - if they can - as a field is more likely to be free of sources of infection that even the cleanest stable. However the mare is more difficult to watch that way.

Good luck. Have fun.

Just walked the field with my friend. Leccy fence going up / checking for ragwort etc this week. Waiting for mare to be ready for covering. Should be with us in about 4-ish weeks I guess.

One more week or so until the mare is run past the stallion again. (wheeee!)

AND through clearing the rabbits out of my field in prep for her arrival here, a really good offer of a home has come about for my friend's stallion! It's a really good deal: free DIY livery in a decent yard nearby in return for help turning out and bringing in, and a few riding lessons.

It's all coming together. My buddy will get to keep these lovely horses of hers yet! xxx

glad all is going well theres a few feilds around here full of gypsey cobs mainly piebold's but a few skewbolds and a really nice pally with flaxland mane and tail which is stunning they must have a few stallions running with the herd but only seen 2. the state of these mares are abit of a worry as there tails are touching the ground + 5 ft all matted and the hooves are all a mess certainly wis i could atleast ome one of these but there foals are just stunning shame the owner dont live in swindon but then he rents about 10 fields in the area all with about 50 mares either ready to foal or already foaled down

Well. My friend had the mare covered and is hoping and praying that she is in foal. Unfortunately not for me though as someone else offered to take her mare on pretty much the same deal as I had offered and she decided to go with them.

The other friend I introduced her to who offered a good home for her stallion - looks like that is going to work out for them - and as I understand it at the moment, they have struck a deal regarding either the foal at foot or the one hopefully on the way.

Took me a while to post about it as I felt quite disappointed. But there you go.

Thanks for all your help and advice in reply to this thread. Your suggestions and thoughts really helped. xxx

REALLY sorry to hear this Mrs. Baggins. I know how much thought you put into this and what the disappointment must feel like...

Did your friend give any reason for the change of plan?
Does she realise you had set your heart on this and were not just doing it because she is a friend who needs help in a tight spot?
Does she know you are disappointed..... ?

I feel deflated for you........

Aw thanks Sally. xxx I did tell her I was really disappointed but she didn't really respond to that. She wants me to have the foals when they are being weaned and if I like one of them - I can buy it. She did offer to find a horse for me: she picks one for me and I buy it.

What's for me won't go by me. But I do feel pretty deflated over it all. Just one of those things, eh?

It might be for the best at this point, even though you feel deflated about it now. Speaking as one who is juggling the child-livestock balance relatively ungracefully. I empathise, though - when you are so excited about something and it so *nearly* comes off, you do get let down with a bump.
