Just took the bin bag out to find the prettiest orb weaver spider I've ever seen standing guard over a huge web stretched between the bin and the hedge. She was huge, all tiger stripes and orange markings.
Good thing we don't use the bin to excess, would hate to disturb her unnecessarily.

Went to the loo earlier today, and heard a buzzing - turned round to see a daddy long-legs caught in a spider's web, but the spider was about a tenth of it's size. It was still managing to wrap it up though. Amazing things spiders, I really like them.

I've got a couple who look like moving in for the winter. Put it this way, I won't have any trouble with mice this year.

we've had a lot of spiders brought into work for identification this year, its been a good season for them, some of our perfectly normal but more unusual ones have been much more visible recently

We had a whole succession of spiders who lived in the bathroom and liked to sit on the bath towels. They were all called Monster. Sadly, Ben likes to play with them now, and eats them when their legs all curl up. I have to distract him if I find one in the wood pile and evict it for its own safety.

When I fnd caterpillars on my brassicas I feed them to the spiders in my garden. One of them has grown quite well now. I always call them Spidey and think of them as females as I believe the biggest ones are females. I have quite a few on my allotments as well. They keep the frogs and toads company

Ew. Shudder.
Sorry to be all crap and girly but they scare me stupid. All those legs: t'ain't natural. (Crabs disturb me hugely too with their scuttly sideways leggy thing.)
