Much of the dirt on clothes is acidic (skin mantle) so having a basic pH in your laundry is a good thing.

I found vinegar to leave a strong smell. However, I could only find distilled/brewed white vinegar as opposed to plain acetic acid. Perhaps that makes a difference? I think brewed white vinegar still ...
