a sheet of EDPM or butyl pond liner would get you dry in just minutes and can then have a sedum/allium mix stuck on when you have time to sort it out.

Get scrounging at the garden centres etc.

I use shingles whenever I want a long lasting , low maintainance roof. (guess it depends where you buty them )

We once removed 150 year old shingles from a Pavilion, during a renovation project, ...
