Don't know whether you've come accross this site yet, chap from them has just been on Radio 5:

ETA

Ford Focus isn't in the top 10 TD, but the Fiesta is

Unfortunately the Aston Martin DB9 is in the worst 10, so that's out of the running then

Some useful comparisons and information nevertheless....

I'm with ETA for breakdown recovery etc, and the one time I've had to use them they were very helpful.

The best thing is that you can get some smug satisfaction from not being associated with the RAC/AA guy who claims to speak for "motorists" on the radio.

Interesting to see that the Citroen C1 is third and the Peugeot 107 is eighth. I was under the impression that they're the samecar made in the same factory. Maybe the Pug's badge is heavier...?

I'm also recently joined up with the ETA breakdown service - glad to hear it works OK!

Quite.

For anyone that cares to look, the ranking system is pretty nonsensical.
https://www.eta.co.uk/page.asp?p=140

They compare the cars against others in the "same category" and give them points depending on how they do against category averages.
Oh, and then they don't quote the results per category, they use it to compare cars in different categories... which is a total nonsense.

And of course it depends what category you put things into...
Audi A2 (1.4) is a "supermini" ie comparing it against the Fiesta and its ilk.
Honda Civic IMA (1.4) is a "small family car" but the
Toyota Prius (1.5) is a "large family car".
I suspect that if one put Civic and Prius in the same category, they'd both be closer to that category's average, hence less 'outstanding' and might both fall out of the "top 10".

Sorry, relative ranking within arbitrary categories is no way to do an absolute comparison...

And YES, they HAVE put the Citroen and Peugeot into DIFFERENT categories !!!
The fact they get different ratings demonstrates that there is something VERY arbitrary and silly going on. Probably in the hope of generating publicity.

I think Dpack might be right (again)

- That's very interesting Dougal.

I wonder what on earth we can believe sometimes. One tries very hard to do ones best, it seems there is such a lot of information, trying to understand what's good and what's bad is almost impossible, if you only have a limited amount of knowledge.

But are they bad, jumping on banwagon scumbags or do they really believe what they've put is true?

Very hard to know. That's why places where these things can be discussed are so useful

The diesel 'new' focus is in 2nd and 3rd place in the small family class, with a maximum rating.

Hard to say, I would go for jumping on the bandwagon a bit general incompetents.

It's a useful lesson in getting the correct advice out, It's something we try very hard to do here.

If we assume general incompetence, oughtn't someone here who knows their onions go put them right? If they are misleading the public?

(I'd do it but have sketchy knowledge re cars).
