Mine is set to hibernate after 15 minutes being idle, but on and off it throughout the day - only switch of at bed time or if I am out most of the day.

leave running, pretty much 24/7. it's my TV, stereo and I use chat a lot more than i'd use a phone. I also leave it running overnight to download 'stuff'

Same here, depends if I'm likely to need it throughout the day, but it can be very annoying when you go back after 14 minutes 59 seconds & it clicks off

I switch this one right off when I've done what I have to do. I spend too much time sitting in front of the one at work.

I don't switch the modem or computer off at the socket, just switch them off at the back. I do tend to leave the printer on at least half the time though - dunno why I tend to forget it, probably 'cos it's a bit awkward to get at the switch.

Computers, monitors, router, modem, printer and all peripherals all run from one master socket, which gets turned off every night, while individual computers are shut down when not actually in use. The power drain from the whole set-up is pretty large, and with energy prices being what they are, we need to economise.

Computer is switched off at screen and box but the plug is left switched on, as the broadband etc is plugged into the same gang thingy and I am often using the laptop in the other room when the pc is not in use. I always pull the lead out of the back of the laptop at night but the plug is left switched on as its hard to get to.

Mine is on during the day unless I'm going out for more than an hour or so. It goes into sleep mode (apparantly when it feels like it), & I always turn it off & off at the plug at night.

I have one of those mains power meters' I'm going to see what the power consumption of my pc over a range of scenarios. Should be interesting, or deadly dull.

The computer and the airport base station stay on 24x7, but I have a couple of external drives that don't get used unless I'm running iPhoto/iTunes. They're all on the same 4-way power socket so I picked up a couple of in-line switches (EUR 0.20 each) to put between the plug and the external drive power bricks.

I had real problems finding a 4-way power thing with switches next to each socket. Why is that? Shops are falling over themselves to sell you power monitors, so you can see how much these phantom loads are using, but simple solutions to fixing the problems eluded me.
